The Summer School introduces students to the often-separated debates on financial, social, and non-material ("intangible") remittances. From various disciplinary perspectives, participants will explore the ambivalent impact of remittances between supporting families and communities, local development and the (re)production of social inequalities. Interdisciplinary teams will create short podcasts on key aspects of remittances.

Die 11. Runde der RUSTlab Lectures wird dieser Woche Mittwoch 24. April 14 Uhr mit einem Vortrag von Dr. Ronja Trischler der TU-Dortmund zum Thema "Replace or Repair? Moderating Online Advice on How to Take Care of Broken Things" eingeleitet.
Nach dem Vortrag gibt es um 16:15 Uhr eine Vorstellung von Dr. Fabian Pittroffs neue Buch "Die private und die verteilte Person: Studien zu Personalisierung und Privatheit in Zeiten der Digitalisierung" - mit Tank und Snacks

This term's guiding theme is: "Replacement"
Replacements are not mere substitutions. They remind us that data, knowledge, technologies, sites, objects, and people have lives and entanglements beyond their present conditions. Whichever places they arrive into, something else was there earlier, and something else will take the places where they once were. The theme of replacements extends beyond mere material substitutions or physical relocation but refers to the renegotiation of meaning, value and relation. Replacements include transformation and rearrangement, as well as regrowth and replenishment. Where something is gained, something may be lost.
This summer's theme started with RUSTlab's own journey of replacement. Relocated to the main RUB campus, we find ourselves in a state of flux in which we will have to re-place and re-situate ourselves among new colleagues and infrastructure, and re-grow in a new place.

Am zweiten Veranstaltungsabend im Rahmen der sechsteiligen hybriden Veranstaltungsreihe "Arbeit und Demokratie" des Netzwerk der Arbeits- und Gewerkschaftsforschung in der Universitätsallianz Ruhr (UA Ruhr) spricht Prof. Dr. Rolf G. Heinze (Seniorprofessor an der Fakultät für Sozialwissenschaft der RUB) über die Rolle von Wohlfahrtsverbänden auf dem sich wandelnden Arbeitsmarkt.
Als einer der wenigen Akteure am Arbeitsmarkt unterliegen Wohlfahrtsverbände einer beträchtlichen Wachstumsdynamik (fast 2,1 Millionen Hauptamtliche).
Prof. Heinze wird in seinem Vortrag neben der Arbeitsmarktbedeutung insbesondere auf deren wirksame Mitgestaltung des Gemeinwesens eingehen und dabei demokratische Potenziale hervorheben.
